Our proud boast
Every penny of charity money raised by Lions Clubs goes to charitable causes. All administration costs are met by the members themselves.

Who are the Lions?
The first Lions club was formed in 1917 in Chicago USA. Since then the organisation has grown to over 40,000 clubs spread across almost 200 countries all around the world.
In that time countless millions of people have been helped by Lions clubs, either directly as a volunteer service or by providing funds to support worthwhile projects.
Lions are:
- Members of the world’s largest and most active service club organisation.
- People who have decided to give something back to their communities.
- People who identify the needs of others and set about meeting those needs.
- People who enjoy working together in fellowship to help those less fortunate than themselves
- People who enjoy themselves and include fun in their caring attitude.
Lions are, or could be, someone like you. You could be raising money for charity and having an enjoyable social life at the same time - all with a group of people from differing backgrounds.
Some of the causes supported recently by Ironbridge and Severn Gorge Lions Club from public donations collected by Lions:
- Donations to the Stroke Association, Lifeboats, British Heart Foundation, Shropshire Deaf Children, Hope House, Special Olympics, National Library for the Blind, local pre school playgroups, sheltered housing schemes and youth groups
- In addition, 130 hampers were made up and delivered to needy households at Christmas
- A water well was provided to give a village in Africa access to clean water
- Eyeglass recycling, to provide spectacles to the developing world
- Christmas gifts for children at the Telford Women’s Refuge
- Help with the costs of a wheelchair
We have recently funded the furnishing of both conservatories for the new Severn Hospice in Telford. We plan to continue our support for the hospice with an annual donation towards its cost.
